Online purchase and sell disputes connect Consumer Protection awareness.

Goutam Paul On Consumer Rights : Today we are showing an overview of consumer rights. In India, the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, was  amended in 2019 to strengthen consumer rights and provide for more efficient redressal mechanisms. It aims to safeguard the rights and interests of consumers against unfair trade practices, defective goods and services, exploitation, and misleading advertisements by businesses.

 
 * Right to Safety: Protection against marketing of goods and services that are hazardous to life and property.
 * Right to be Informed: The right to be informed about the quality, quantity, potency, purity, standard, and price of goods or services.
 * Right to Choose: The right to choose from a variety of goods and services at competitive prices.
 * Right to be Heard: The right to be heard and to be assured that consumer interests will receive due consideration at appropriate forums.
 * Right to Seek Redressal: The right to seek redressal against unfair trade practices or defective goods or deficient services from appropriate forums.
 * Right to Consumer Education: The right to acquire knowledge and skills to be an informed and responsible consumer.
   
 * Digitalization of Consumer Disputes: Efforts are being made to digitize the consumer dispute resolution process to make it more efficient and accessible. It focus on E-commerce: With the rapid growth of e-commerce, the focus has shifted towards addressing issues like online fraud, misleading advertisements, and data privacy concerns.
 
   * Expanded the scope of consumer protection to include e-commerce and online transactions.
   * Empowered consumers to file complaints electronically.
   * Provided for stringent penalties for violations of consumer rights.

   * Established a three-tiered consumer dispute redressal mechanism: District Consumer Commissions, State Consumer Commissions, and the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
